The Lewis & Clark NRD located in Hartington, Nebraska, seeks a full-tim Information and Education Technician.

The Information and Education Technician performs work to support the staff and board of directors. The employee implements the resources information and education activities of the district. These activities are instrumental in providing information, which builds positive relationships with public, communities, civic groups and governmental agencies that work with or are impacted by the district. This employee will be responsible for news articles, website content, social media of the district and state distribution, public information and publications, general presentations and displays about the district, its activities and goals. Employee will promote LCNRD and natural resources activities and provide educational programs for adults and children from all walks of life. Excellent communication and organization abilities required. 

General Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below. Other activities may be assigned at the discretion of management.

  • Responsible for utilizing available resources, the internet, and social media, presentations, power point, newsletters, mailings, newspapers, and other sources to disseminate information to the public relating to district goals, objectives, programs, projects, and activities. 
  • Responsible for maintaining the district web page with current, relevant, well organized, and visibly appealing information.
  • Responsible for planning, development, and implementation of educational activities, contests, tours, demonstration projects, and other educational programs for the public, schools and youth. Such educational activities include Arbor Day presentations, scholarship(s) promotion and distribution, field days, land and range judging contests, annual awards program, and Envirothon contest.
  • Participate in the planning, coordination, preparation, and presentation of educational workshops pertinent to activities of the LCNRD.
  • Support staff and management in planning for effective conservation and natural resources communication and outreach.
  • Attend meetings and training as needed. 
  • Plan and coordinate meetings and events for LCNRD staff, directors and/or public.
  • Responsible for planning, development, preparation and use of displays and exhibits.  Materials for displays may include appropriate graphics, text, photographs, and other materials.
  • Administer the district’s award programs and develop applications for awards.   
  • Maintain the district’s conservation and environmental resources library which may include various project summaries, activity reports and resources studies.
  • Serve as the district’s administrator for the NeRAIN network. Advocate and promote conservation, wise resource management, and environmental protection. 
  • Become knowledgeable about all programs within LCNRD, all NRDs, and NARD.
  • Prepare monthly press releases, quarterly newsletters, radio/TV announcements, and other outreach material.
  • Assist in certification of irrigated acres. 


A high school diploma and at least two years college credit are required. Farm or ranch background experience is an asset and at least one year of satisfactory employment in a related field would be helpful to assure a basic understanding of the needs for this position. 

Employee must have an ability to work with people in a professional manner and perform accomplishments efficiently. This position requires the ability communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to gather, analyze and interpret information and to prepare reports and presentations. Employee must be familiar with computer programs and multimedia equipment. Employee must be able to work independently as well as work with staff, board or in a group setting. The employee may be asked to successfully complete training and obtain certification in connection with this position.    

Employee is expected to have or obtain a valid driver’s license and may be asked to provide their own vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) as part of their duties. Must be able to lift 50# as this position may require occasional heavy lifting. 

Skills sought include: proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite which includes Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Publisher and proficiency using Adobe programs.
