Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District - Accounting Assistant
The District has an opening for a full-time Accounting Assistant. Successful candidate must have 1-2 years of experience in clerical and accounting/bookkeeping, with customer service experience preferred. Must have a basic working knowledge of computers and office software. POSITION DESCRIPTION
DATE: January 2023
POSITION TITLE: Accounting Assistant
POSITION DEFINITION/CLASSIFICATION - SALARY GRADE 5: Full Time/Hourly
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with one hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks or equivalent. A 
modified work schedule may apply if approved by Supervisor.
OFFICE LOCATION: Natural Resources Center
SUPERVISOR: Senior Accountant
DESCRIPTION: Performs accounting activities for the financial reporting of the District and the District's Improvement Project Areas to staff, Board of Directors, and public.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs accounting activities including:
a. Billing and accounts receivable for the District’s Rural Water projects.
b. Communicate with Rural Water customers in writing and verbally.
c. Maintain Rural Water customer and District vendor and employee files and 
information.
d. Verify and import time and equipment sheets, including limited data entry,
and assist in preparing and transmitting bi-weekly payroll.
e. Prepare and scan bank deposits for all District accounts.
2. Assists with receptionist duties on an as-needed basis.
3. Performs other duties as assigned. 
4. May be required to assist with emergency operations work in accordance with emergency operations program.
WORK REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
1. At least one year of technical training or education in accounting preferred.
2. Must have two years of experience in clerical and accounting/bookkeeping; customer service experience highly preferred.
3. Must have working knowledge of computer, computerized accounting systems and other software, calculator, copier, etc.
4. Must have ability to exercise good judgment during the application of District procedures and policies as it pertains to accounting.
5. Must have a driver's license valid in Nebraska. 
Physical:
1. Must pass pre-employment medical exam (including drug testing).
2. Must have good eyesight for processing invoices, accounts receivable meter cards, and detailed ledger functions.
3. Must be able to file and retrieve stored data, as well as operate various office equipment.
4. Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty (20) pounds, to move check boxes and stored records from one location to another.
5. Must be able to skillfully communicate in writing and verbally both over the phone and in person to assist District Rural Water customers and the general public with inquiries, concerns and complaints.
DIMENSIONS:
1. 70% of time spent on accounting functions.
2. 30% of time spent on general office support services
