The Nemaha Natural Resources District is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Water Resources Technician and is seeking a self-motivated person to perform technical field, laboratory and office work related to the District’s Water Resources Programs. Resumes for the full-time, permanent position of Water Resources Technician are currently being accepted until close of business Friday February 21st, 2025.

Summary of Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Office

  • Use of Microsoft Suite of Software – Outlook, Word, Excel, Access & Power Point
  • Data entry
  • Knowledge and use of Geographical Information System (GIS) Software preferred
  • Other water related duties as assigned to include assisting with writing reports, making maps, and answering questions from the public
  • Attend statewide meetings, events, and training as deemed feasible and necessary

Laboratory

  • Operate District’s water laboratory equipment and follow standard operating procedures and quality assurance/quality control protocols

Field

  • Operate GPS unit, data collection applications and water quality sampling equipment
  • Collect groundwater samples and water level measurements from water wells
  • Collect surface water samples from streams and District recreation area lakes & beaches
  • Conduct chemigation inspections
  • Inspect and read irrigation well flowmeters
  • Read and follow maps and understand the public land survey system (PLSS)
  • Other water related duties as assigned include assisting with water well decommissioning, following standard operating procedures and quality assurance/quality control protocols and working with landowners.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma with preference given to Associates and Bachelor of Science Degree with major course work in water science, natural resources, civil or environmental engineering, agricultural watershed management, or other directly related fields. One to three years’ experience and proficiency in water resources work or equivalent will greatly enhance consideration. Additional experience may replace degree requirements.

Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable to operate District vehicles. Ability to operate 4-wheeler, side by side, pull and back up trailers, and load and unload equipment from trailers. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Ability to tolerate outside working conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, pollen, dust, insects, and loud noise. Ability to obtain a Natural Resources Groundwater Technician license after employment.

The Water Resources Technician position will work from the District’s office located in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Work hours are from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Starting salary range is $44,000 to $53,000 depending upon qualifications and experience. Benefits package includes health insurance, retirement, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
