GIS and Grants Specialist - Lower Platte North NRD, Wahoo

The Lower Platte North Natural Resources District (NRD) is accepting resumes for the full-time position of GIS and Grants Specialist.

This position is responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the NRD’s geographical information system (GIS) and identifying, applying and tracking various grants which meet the needs of the NRD from beginning to end. Manages assigned programs involving GIS and grants which include, but not limited to, ground water, surface water and projects. Advises the General Manager and Assistant Manager on procedures and proper actions in assigned program areas. Develops and completes required studies, reports, and programs in area of assignment. 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain GIS applications for various programs including ground water
  • quality and quantity, registered wells, abandoned wells, chemigation, monitoring wells, land treatment projects and flood control projects.
  • Maintain GIS hardware and software.
  • Acquire, update and organize the District’s geographic data.
  • Develop maps as needed for District projects and programs.
  • Provide training and inform District staff on programs and subjects of GIS.
  • As needed, responsible for operation of the District’s computers, network and all other related computer hardware and software.
  • Research various types of grants available and the criteria to qualify for each.
  • Discusses available sources of funding with administrative managers.
  • Compiles necessary information for the application process through collaboration with other employees, database research, and other factfinding actions and meetings.
  • Drafts and completes grant applications according to application requirements.
  • Ensures grant is submitted on time and within application parameters.
  • Completes all documents, forms, or reports required by the grant.
  • Coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects that are funded by grants.
  • Develops and maintains master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by District Management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in appropriate curriculum and demonstrated ability to perform position requirements. Experience and proficiency in use of GIS mapping software, location intelligence and spatial analytics will be strongly considered. Experience in grant investigation, writing and tracking also preferred.  Four years of experience in related fields may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Heavy lifting of up to 40 pounds may be required.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to obtain a Nebraska Driver’s License. Must be insurable in Nebraska.
  • Personnel must be able to work in an outdoor environment including such adverse conditions as heat, cold, sun, dust and pollen.
