Water Data Assistant - Upper Big Blue NRD, York

The Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District (NRD) has a full-time opening for a Water Data Assistant. The Upper Big Blue NRD relies heavily on spatial and tabular databases in its everyday operations. The Water Data Assistant will provide support to the Water Data Specialist in the handling of certified acres and ground water withdrawal reporting. The candidate will work one-on-one with District staff and constituents to ensure data integrity.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate large-scale mailings
  • Make use of a custom software application for spatial and tabular data management
  • Regularly maintain data records for certified acres and ground water withdrawal reports
  • Work with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources to update registered well records
  • Assist the public with certifying irrigated acres and reporting of ground water withdrawals
  • Coordinate with District County Assessors to update tract records
  • Other duties as assigned by the water department manager or water data specialist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate of Science degree with applicable experience in natural resources, agriculture, agri-business, database management, or environmental sciences
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are a must
  • Skill in reviewing, proofing, and verifying data
  • Ability to work well and communicate effectively with people
  • Capable of working independently and taking responsibility for results
  • Use sound judgement in difficult situations to facilitate conflict resolution
  • Experience in land records management desirable, but not required
  • Microsoft SQL experience desirable but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties of this position.   • Lifting 25-50 pounds from ground level to overhead
  • Sitting for extended periods of time behind a computer screen
  • Ability to fold, stuff, and postmark large mailings              

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The employee is expected to comply with the District’s personnel policies, drug-free and alcohol-free workplace policies, and safety policies. While representing the District, the employee will conduct himself or herself in a professional manner and avoid actions or comments that would reflect unfavorably on the District.

COMPENSATION:

This is a full-time position (starting wage $39,000-$41,000 negotiable with experience). The Upper Big Blue NRD offers:
