The Lower Platte North Natural Resources District, headquartered in Wahoo, Nebraska, is seeking an Assistant Water Resources Manager. This is a full-time, salaried position with a comprehensive benefits package. Hiring salary range: $65,000 to $75,000 annually depending upon qualifications and relevant experience. The position is responsible for assisting with carrying out water goals and objectives, administering water management plans, research and development of water management policies, and analyzing and presenting technical information to stakeholders. Resumes may be emailed to Eric Gottschalk, General Manager, at egottschalk [at] lpnnrd.org  

Essential Functions:

  • Assist water resources team to carry out water goals and objectives of the NRD
  • Assist with administration of all LPNNRD Water Management Plans
  • Research and development of water management policies
  • Analyze and present technical information to stakeholders and Board of Directors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in geology, engineering, natural resources management, water resources management, environmental sciences, agriculture or graduate work in any of the previously mentioned disciplines.
  • Two years’ experience in water resource management, conservation, or related field.
  • General knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations regarding groundwater and surface water resources.
  • Understanding of geology, agronomy, environmental monitoring, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and groundwater modeling.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Experience establishing productive relationships with Federal, State, and Local government officials, employees, co-workers, and a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Experience communicating to a wide variety of audiences both written and oral.
  • Within one year of employment, ability to obtain and keep a Natural Resource Water Technician license.
  • Must have and keep a valid driver’s license and be insurable in Nebraska.
  • Ability to occasionally travel overnight.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds, ability to climb, bend, and stoop, ability to work in outdoor temperature extremes, ability to walk on uneven terrains, regular and reliable attendance.
