Water Resources Intern - Lower Loup NRD, Fullerton
Job Title: Water Resources Technician Temporary Full Time
Location: Fullerton, Nebraska
Compensation: $16/hour
The Lower Loup Natural Resources District is proud to be a vital part of Nebraska’s network of 23 Natural Resources Districts (NRDs). These NRDs are strategically organized along hydrological boundaries, allowing them to address a wide array of natural resource challenges in a localized and effective manner. Our District, like its counterparts, holds the essential responsibility of safeguarding and nurturing our natural resources. This includes a broad spectrum of areas, such as water quality and quantity, forestry, range management, soil conservation, and much more.
Intern Responsibilities - Approximately 75% of the time will be spent water sampling wells for nitrate analysis including, independently approaching landowners, farm operators and commercial entities within the NRD, utilizing GPS, researching sampling sites and entering data on the web after a training period. The balance of the time will include measuring irrigation water, evaluating irrigation systems, installing and maintaining remote soil moisture sensors, probing soil for moisture, observing crops for maturity and nitrogen adequacy, sampling soil up to 30’ deep with hand and powered probes, troubleshooting web applications and mapping crops and manure on GIS systems.
Qualifications/Requirements – Seeking a degree in Agronomy, Natural Resources, GIS, Agricultural Engineering or other environmental sciences and experience in agriculture. Need good communication skills. A driver’s license is required.

Upon successful completion of the internship the candidate will gain confidence and experience to continue working in the environmental field. Upon successful completion of the internship the candidate will be considered for full time employment.
