The Lower Platte North Natural Resources District is seeking two summer interns for the summer of 2026.  The position will begin in May and run until the start of the fall semester of school.

Work will be conducted from the NRD’s headquarters located at 1616 Co, Road 17, Wahoo, Nebraska.  A district vehicle is provided to perform work related activities. 

Five T-shirts and a cap with the District logo will be provided as uniforms to each summer employee.

Main job duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:

(May & June) ─ Operations and Maintenance Department

• Tree Planting
• Dam site maintenance and inspections (spraying noxious weeds & cutting trees)
• District property maintenance, to include recreational facilities.
• District vehicle maintenance
• Other operational and maintenance duties as assigned.
• Office duties such as data entry, educational activities

(July & August) ─ Water Department

• Verifying flow meters
• Variance & Well permits checks.
• Performing chemigation inspections
• Performing ground water quality sampling
• Measuring irrigation well pumping rates with an ultrasonic flow meter
• Flow meter readings and making water level measurements.
• Various office duties as needed such as mailings and data input (computer skills are preferred)
• Collect GPS data and perform geographic information system tasks.
• Other water duties as assigned.

A 40-hour work week is guaranteed with work hours from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.  The rate of pay is $15.00 per hour (this may be adjusted).

Work situations involve outdoor conditions of high heat and humidity.  Exposure to dust, pollen and insects will also be encountered.
