NEWS RELEASE
Central Platte NRD Board to Take Action on Groundwater Management Areas

(GRAND ISLAND, NE) The Central Platte Natural Resources District’s board of directors will review testimony and take action on their proposal to move southern Hall and northern Hamilton counties (south of the Platte River) from a Phase I to a Phase II Groundwater Management Area at the January 21, 2016 board meeting.  The meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Platte NRD office, located at 215 Kaufman Avenue in Grand Island, NE.

Three landowners testified at the public hearing held just prior to the Board of Directors meeting in December.  The board proposed the change due to increasing nitrate levels in those areas.  The CPNRD’s Groundwater Quality Rules & Regulations require areas with nitrate level concentrations of 7.6 to 15 parts per million (ppm) to be placed in a Phase II area.  Maps of the proposed areas and the Rules and Regulations are available for download on the NRD’s website at: www.cpnrd.org and available at the CPNRD office.

OTHER ACTION/AGENDA ITEMS:

-NRCS Report- James Huntwork, USDA-NRCS district liaison, will report to the board.

-Board Officer Election- The board will take action to election a secretary and treasurer for the 2016-2018 term.  The Nominating Subcommittee recommendations in December were: Barry Obermiller for board secretary and Charles Maser for board treasurer.

-2016 Election- Lyndon Vogt, general manager, will review election deadlines for incumbent and non-incumbent candidates.

-Legislative Session- Mark Czaplewski, biologist, will report on bills relating to natural resources in this session.

-Other- As may develop prior to the board meeting.
