Lower Platte South NRD Board Elects Leaders

LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Lower Platte South Natural Resource District (LPSNRD) Board of Directors appointed Seth W. Hawkins to fill the board seat for Subdistrict 2 for the year 2024 when it met Wednesday. Seth Hawkins, who lives in Plattsmouth, has an undergraduate degree in Natural Resources and a law degree from the University of Nebraska. Hawkins stated that he is both concerned and interested in the issues affecting Nebraska’s natural resources which is why he took classes in natural resources and agricultural law while attending law school.

Hawkins said in a statement, “Serving the people in my community and protecting the natural resources which they depend as a Director on this board would be a privilege and a great responsibility.”

The board also carried out the election of NRD Officers and NARD Representatives for 2024, which they do each January. Officers include Dave Landis – Chair, Bob Andersen – Vice Chair, Chelsea Johnson – Treasurer, Lisa Lewis – Secretary, Tom Green – NARD representative, and John Yoakum – NARD alternate.

In other business the board:

  • Approved Community Assistance Cost-Share for the Village of Ceresco Hobson Branch Stream Restoration Project. ($38,550.92)
  • Approved professional services agreement with Houston Engineering for engineering services for the Deadmans Run Flood Reduction Project – CLOMR. ($38,123.00)
  • Approved professional services agreement with Houston Engineering for engineering services for the Deadmans Run Flood Reduction Project – Value Engineering. ($163,243.00)
  • Approved bid for Upper Salt Creek 3-2 Watershed Dam Rehabilitation Project from Tim Sisco Construction ($127,730.65)
  • Approved a well permit for Timothy Jacobs located in a Hydrologically Connected Area (HCA) near Waverly.
