In celebration of Arbor Day on Friday, April 25, Tri-Basin Natural Resources District (NRD) will give away free tree seedlings to district residents. In Holdrege, the event will be held at the Tri-Basin NRD office at 1723 Burlington Street and will be hosted by the NRD in conjunction with the Holdrege Municipal Tree Board during the Holdrege Area Chamber of Commerce's weekly Coffee AM. District residents are invited to visit the NRD office or stop by one of four other locations throughout the district to pick up their free tree or shrub seedling.

Giveaway locations are:

- Elwood NRCS Office at 9:30 a.m.

- First State Bank in Bertrand at 10:00 a.m.

- Chautauqua Park in Minden at 9:30 a.m.

- Loomis Village Office at 10:00 a.m.

Available tree species include mountain ash, littleleaf linden, gray dogwood, silky dogwood, Kentucky coffeetree, Russian almond, red osier dogwood, northern catalpa, red oak, Norway maple, and bur oak.

Part of the mission of Tri-Basin Natural Resources District is to promote tree-planting as a good conservation practice, with benefits for people and wildlife. Tri-Basin NRD plants trees for rural landowners when they need windbreaks and shelterbelts. The NRD also promotes "urban forestry" through support for Arbor Day celebrations across the district, in cooperation with local municipal tree boards.
