Central Platte NRD Hosts Birding Event April 29

GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska -- How are you celebrating Nebraska Bird Month? Avian enthusiasts are invited to join the Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) for a family-friendly event on Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Prairie Silver Moores (PSM) Flood Cells. The event is free and a great opportunity to see wetlands and flood detention cells up close.

Central Platte NRD’s first annual PSM Birding Event will be held The site is located just six miles northwest of Grand Island near the Cornhusker Army Ammunition site. Head West on Old Potash Road or take Highway 11 to enter the gate along Schauppsville Road.

Bring your binoculars and a friend to enjoy the unique Nebraska landscapes these sights offer for bird and wildlife habitats.

Several wildlife biologists will be on-site to assist with bird identification. Attendees will also have the chance to win several wildlife-themed raffle prizes. Small refreshments and porta-potties will be on site.

DIRECTIONS FROM

  • Grand Island: Head West on Old Potash Road, drive 6 miles, turn North on 90th Road, drive 1 mile turn West on 13th Street, drive 0.5 mile.
  • Wood River: Head North on Highway 11, drive 4.5 miles, turn East on Husker Highway, drive 4 miles, turn North on Schaupsville Road, drive 3 miles, turn East on 13th Street, drive 0.5 mile.
  • Cairo: Head South on Highway 11, drive 3 miles, turn East on Airport Road, drive 4 miles, turn South on Schauppsville Road, drive 2 miles, turn East on 13th Street, drive 0.5 mile.
