LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD) Board of Directors (Board) is working to develop the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget, and public input early in the process is most desirable, preferably before the end of June. The annual budget process begins each April, with final consideration of a budget in August. The LPSNRD fiscal year begins July 1, 2021.

While public input is invited throughout the budget process, public comments should be made as early as possible, to maximize the Board’s ability to respond.

“Written public comments on the budget are preferred, since continued virtual Board meetings are likely and we want to be sure we fully understand the public’s suggestions,” said LPSNRD Board Treasurer Robert Andersen.

The public may also choose to contact their district representatives on the Board, as listed at LPSNRD.org – About – Board of Directors – Your Representative.  Several opportunities for public comment directly to the Board of Directors are built-in to the budget process and anyone providing input may also submit comments in writing at these times:

Wednesday, June 16, during LPSNRD Board of Directors monthly meeting – The initial budget draft will be reviewed for directors and the public. Comments will be welcomed, and the Board especially appreciates public input at this early stage in the budget process. The June 16 meeting begins one hour earlier than normal, at 6 PM. The initial budget draft will be posted at LPSNRD.org in early June, prior to the June 16 Board meeting.

• Wednesday, July 21, during the LPSNRD Board of Directors monthly meeting – The Board will consider tentative approval of the FY 2022 Budget.
• Wednesday, August 18 – annual Budget Public Hearing.
• Thursday, August 26, during LPSNRD Board of Directors monthly meeting – final budget consideration.
