Lower Platte South NRD to Host Family Outdoor Evening at Wildwood

06/09/2022

LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD) is inviting the public to help celebrate a milestone anniversary at its Wildwood Lake on June 23, 2022. LPSNRD has been serving the district, which includes most of Lancaster and Cass counties and parts of Butler, Saunders, Otoe and Seward counties, through its management of natural resources for 50 years. Activities planned at Wildwood include:

  • Learn about the history of Wildwood Lake and LPSNRD
  • Meet DART, LPSNRD’s western tiger salamander
  • Net and learn about macro invertebrates along the shoreline
  • Fish, with equipment, bait and expert instruction for beginners provided by Nebraska Game & Parks. A valid Nebraska fishing permit is required for those age 16 and older. Visit OutdoorNebraska.org.
  • Kayak, with free use of kayaks, life vests and paddles provided in partnership with UNL’s Outdoor Adventures.

The public can also learn about LPSNRD’s 50th Anniversary Scavenger Hunt and cards will be available. The scavenger hunt encourages exploration while learning about LPSNRD projects and programs throughout the summer. More information is available at LPSNRD.org.

Wildwood Lake is located just south of NW 84th Street and West Ashland Road. No vehicle entry permit is required. The Family Outdoor Evening of fun, learning and relaxation is from 5:30-7:30 PM on Thursday, June 23. The public is invited to pack a picnic and bring your own kayak, paddle board or fishing pole. If the Family Outdoor Evening is cancelled due to inclement weather or for other reasons, announcements will be posted at LPSNRD.org and on Facebook.

Year-round, Wildwood offers a boat ramp (5 mph no-wake boating), parking, restrooms and tent camping. Wildwood’s primary function is flood management and it is the largest lake in LPSNRD’s North Oak Watershed Project. The 491-acre property, including the 103-acre lake, is owned by LPSNRD and managed by Nebraska Game & Parks.
