Tri-Basin NRD Schedules Hearings for Budget, Rules Changes

07/15/2015

Tri-Basin Natural Resources District (NRD) Directors reviewed the district's 2015-2016 fiscal year budget and some proposed changes to the district's rules during their July board meeting. Both matters will be brought to public hearing in conjunction with the board's monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Funk Community Building in Funk, Nebraska. The hearings will provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the proposed budget and rules changes, which can be found on the Tri-Basin NRD website, www.tribasinnrd.org.

Directors authorized Tri-Basin NRD staff to negotiate with landowners affected by the plan to construct a recharge reservoir in eastern Kearney County. The proposed reservoir, which is planned for Sand Creek about five miles east of Minden, would recharge and protect groundwater supplies in eastern Kearney County. The Kearney County Board of Commissioners will also participate in the project in order use the dam to complete a portion of 38 Road.

Tri-Basin NRD's board also:

• Authorized staff to consult with Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, Lower Republican NRD, Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, and local landowners to investigate options for diverting high flows from the Platte River into tributaries of the Republican River.

• Approved applications for three irrigated acre transfers and one special request to convert acres from certified irrigated use to livestock use.

• Approved three applications for well decommissioning cost-share funds totaling $1,500 and nine cost-share applications totaling $17,887.24.

Tri-Basin NRD's next Board of Directors meeting will be Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Funk Community Building in Funk, Nebraska.
