Community Assistance Program Available to Enhance Natural Resources

08/24/2020

The Lewis and Clark Natural Resources District (LCNRD) sets aside funds each year to assist communities and other public entities in enhancing and protecting natural resources through the Community Assistance Program (CAP). LCNRD accepts applications year-round and approves requests on a first-come, first-served basis.  Projects that will have a positive impact on natural resources will be considered by the LCNRD board for approval.  Funds approved range from $1,000 to $1,500 for planned activities. Entities are required to equally match the funds dedicated to projects by the LCNRD.

Public entities across the district who are looking to enhance, maintain or protect natural resources can apply: communities, ball clubs, schools, churches, 4-H clubs, auxiliaries, etc.  Funds can be used, for example; to create an outdoor classroom, start a community food garden, develop landscaping, cultivate a rain garden, or establish a tree planting. CAP has been used to help fund projects at local schools, ballfields, parks, cemeteries, Veterans Memorials and other projects.  Applications for CAP are available from the LCNRD; visit us on the web at https://lcnrd.nebraska.gov or call (402) 254-6758.

LCNRD works with communities and individual landowners on a wide range of stewardship, management and education programs - from flood control to groundwater monitoring, from irrigation management to outdoor recreation and more.  Activities and projects of LCNRD are reviewed and approved by locally elected directors. LCNRD is one of 23 natural resources districts across the state who share the common goal of protecting the lives, property, and future of Nebraskans and our natural resources.
