North Platte NRD Passes Budget Prioritizing Water Programs

Scottsbluff - The North Platte Natural Resources District’s (NRD) Board of Directors unanimously approved the Budget for Fiscal Year 2015 at their September 11 th board meeting.   The total resources authorized was $5,587,412.28, requiring an increase in levy from .0524 to .0599, or just over seven tenths of a cent per $100 valuation.   Increases in general fund expenditures included just over $800,000, with the largest line item increases occurring in the Project Construction line item for $310,000 and a $350,000 increase in the Special Projects line item for a total of $1.9 million.   Those funds are very important as the District works toward meeting its Surface and Ground Water Integrated Management Plan obligations of returning water to the North Platte River to offset impacts to the river from ground water well development since 1997.   “The Board of Directors is making a deliberate and concerted effort to increase resources available for addressing our obligations in order to avoid draconian management decisions that other districts have faced,” said John Berge, General Manager of the North Platte Natural Resources District.  “They should be commended for that.”
