Upper Niobrara White NRD Budget Holds the Line on Property Taxes

09/18/2020

CHADRON, Nebraska -- Upper Niobrara White Natural Resources District (UNWNRD) Board of Directors approved the fiscal year 2020-2021 budget and tax levy Sept. 10, 2020.

For the seventh straight year, the tax asking will remain at $627,300.00 with the balance of the income being received from grants, state funds and customer charges, which includes conservation tree sales. A decrease in the overall valuation in the four-county region will result in a slight increase in the levy. Budgeted expenses will be increased by approximately 30 percent to $1,860,050.00.  The increase in expenses will be the result of work being conducted on infrastructure damaged in the 2019 floods as well as the initiation of a flood control plan. Funding for these projects will be provided by grants awarded from the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

“The board and staff have been very diligent with spending over the last seven years and have been able to ensure the statutory obligations are met, “said Treasurer Nancy Fisher. “With the help of our state and federal partners, the UNWNRD will continue to protect and enhance the natural resources of northwest Nebraska”.
