NRD Poster Contest Promotes Soil Conservation

The North Platte Natural Resources District is once again conducting its annual Conservation Poster Contest. This 2014 theme is “Dig Deeper: Mysteries in the Soil” and the entry deadline is Friday, Nov. 14. Posters can depict ways to save water in western Nebraska and protect it for future generations. Contest coordinator David Wolf explains how important soil is to western Nebraska. “We talk a lot about how important clean water is for our health, but healthy soil is just as important.” Wolf said. “It is amazing the ecosystems you can find in a bucket full of dirt.”

Last year, Bayard Elementary student Cambree Schmaltz won the state contest and represented Nebraska at the national contest. Wolf hopes more students participate this year. Home schools, daycares, church groups, and other youth organizations are also welcome to gets the kids interested in the poster contest, and they are welcome to submit entries.
