Nominations Being Accepted for Cropland, Grassland & Community Conservation Awards

(GRAND ISLAND, NE)- The Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) is accepting nominations to recognize land owners, land managers, producers, and communities who use best management practices on their operation or within their landscape design.  Nominations are being accepted in three categories: Cropland, Grassland and Community.

Examples of best management include practices that are generally known to conserve water and/or energy, and improve water quality, soil health, air quality, and wildlife habitat.  The nominees must own, rent, farm or manage within the Central Platte NRD; which extends from Gothenburg to Columbus along the Platte River.

Nomination forms are available on the CPNRD website: cpnrd.org or by calling the NRD office at (308) 385-6282.  The nominations are reviewed by the CPNRD Programs Committee and winners are selected by the Board of Directors at their November 17th meeting.  Nominations are due on Monday, November 14, 2016.

The 2016 Presentation of Awards will be held from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Balz Reception Hall in Grand Island, NE.  Award winners will receive a $100 gift card and a sign to display on their land to recognize their accomplishments.  Hors d'oeuvres and drinks are provided by Great Western Bank of Grand Island.  The public is welcome to attend.

Last year’s winners were Barton Beattie, Sumner-Cropland Award; Lindley & Judy Thatcher, Kearney- Grassland Award; and Tim Williams, Central City- Community Conservation Award.
