Central Platte NRD Board to Consider Appointing New Director to Sub-District 5

Central Platte NRD Board to Consider Appointing New Director to Sub-District 5

03/15/2023

GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska –  The Central Platte Natural Resources District’s (CPNRD) Board of Directors will consider the Search Committee’s recommended candidate to fill the vacancy in Sub-District 5, previously held by Jim Bendfeldt of Kearney. Bendfeldt stepped down from the Board in January for personal reasons. The position is a two-year term to end in December 2024. Two candidates were interviewed earlier this month.

The monthly meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the CPNRD office located at 215 Kaufman Avenue in Grand Island, NE.

-Student Presentation  Bret Vaughan, Central City High School, will give a presentation on the Effect of Stratification Temperature on Germination of Native and Non-Native Grasses.

-Natural Resources Conservation Service  Joe Krolikowski, District Conservationist, and Jason Scholz, Resource Conservationist of Grand Island, will report.

-Eastern Projects Committee  The Committee will give a recommendation to the Board on amendments from Olsson for the Platte Valley Industrial Park in Grand Island and from JEO Consulting on dam rehabilitation.

-Agronomist Contract  The Board will consider a contract with Tri-Basin NRD and the Rain Water Basin Joint Venture to hire a joint agronomist. CPNRD would utilize an agronomist to work one-on-one with landowners in high nitrate areas of the District to ensure that producers are aware of programs available to assist them.

-Platte River Resilience Committee  The Board will consider replacing Deb VanMatre as Central Platte NRD’s representative on the Committee.

-Platte River Recovery Implementation Program (PRRIP)  The Board will consider replacing Lyndon Vogt on the PRRIP Land Advisory Committee.

-Violation Report  Luke Zakrzewski, GIS Image Analyst, will give an update on landowners/producers who received a violation notification on land that was irrigated without proper certification or through a transfer.

-Manager’s Report  Lyndon Vogt, General Manager, will report.

-Nebraska Association of Resources District  Deb VanMatre, CPNRD Representative, will report.

-Nebraska Natural Resources Commission  Mick Reynolds, Middle Platte Basin Representative, will report.

-2024 FY Budget  The Eastern Projects and Western Projects committees will review budget needs for the 2024 Fiscal Year.

-Cost-Share  Applications through the Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation and the Central Platte NRD cost-share programs will be considered.

-Upcoming Board Meetings  April 27, May 25, June 29
