Central Platte Natural Resources District to Consider Budget Request for City of Kearney's Household Hazardous Waste Facility

(GRAND ISLAND, NE) Steve Hart and Shauna Petzold, City of Kearney, will request funding from the Central Platte Natural Resources District at their March board of directors meeting to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Central Platte NRD office located at: 215 Kaufman Ave in Grand Island NE. The request is specifically for a TeeMark Paint Can Crusher in the amount of $12,261.00 to be used in the new Household Hazardous Waste Facility, scheduled to begin construction this summer. The new facility will be located near the Kearney Area Recycling Center and will serve the residents of the City of Kearney and Buffalo County.


COMMITTEES/BOARD AGENDA:
-Cease & Desist- Luke Zakrzewski, GIS image analyst, will request a Cease & Desist hearing date for a landowner who is out of compliance with the CPNRD's Rules and Regulations.
-Variance/Appeals Hearing/Meeting- The Variance/Appeals Subcommittee will hear an appeal from a landowner in Buffalo County. They will also discuss a proposed cease & desist case and water transfer options.
-Eastern Projects- The Eastern Projects Committee will hear a request from Loid Luehr and other landowners who live near Shoemaker Island, just south of Wood River.
-Western Projects- The Western Projects Committee will review drainage information for Gibbon, NE., Johnson Lake request for seeding, and the proposed Fiscal 2016 budget.
-Eastern & Western Joint Meeting- The Eastern and Western Projects committees will discuss current snagging and clearing project agreements.
-Programs- The Programs Committee will review college scholarship applications, the cost share and information/education requests for the Fiscal 2016 budget.
-NARD Report- Jim Bendfeldt, director, will request funds to be budgeted for a new outreach approach by the Nebraska Association of Resources District.
-Grassland Conservation Grant- David Carr, range management specialist, will give an update on the funding level approved by the Nebraska Environmental Trust for the Grassland Conservation Grant submitted by CPNRD. The requested amount was $864,150 to reclaim and preserve up to 12,000 acres of crucial habitat in the Loess Canyons in the western part of the District. The goal is to remove Eastern Red Cedar seed source within three short years through mechanical tree clearing and prescribed burning. 
-NRCS- James Huntwork, USDA-NRCS district liaison, will report to the board.
-Legislation- Mark Czaplewski, biologist, will have an update on legislative bills dealing with natural resources.
-Platte River Program- Mark Czaplewski will also give an update on the Platte River Implementation Program.
-Board Orientation- Staff member Luke Zakrzewski, Dan Clement and Angela Warner will present their job responsibilities to the board.
-Cost Share- The board will consider cost share requests by landowners.
