LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (NRD) invites the public to a free guided hike on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, from 6-7:30 p.m., at the Honvlez Prairie along the Prairie Corridor on Haines Branch. While the site is open to the public year-round, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore the restored tallgrass prairie alongside conservation professionals from the Lower Platte South NRD, Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center, and Pioneers Park Nature Center.
Attendees will learn about native plants, pollinators, wildlife habitat, and prairie restoration during a leisurely guided walk along a mowed trail. The event begins with a short introduction before the group sets out through the prairie.
Registration is required due to limited parking. The event is free to attend, but space is limited. Participants are asked to carpool if possible. The parking lot location for the event is at 8500 West Yankee Hill Road; 40.726842, -96.836424.
Guests should bring bug spray, sunscreen, water, and sturdy footwear suitable for walking on uneven ground. The hike will take place rain or shine unless weather conditions are unsafe in which attendees will be notified via email provided during registration. There are no restrooms at this site.
