Central Platte NRD to Host 2026 Water Programs Update in Lexington

02/03/2026

GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska — The Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) invites local producers and community members to attend the 2026 Water Programs Update on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Central Community College in Lexington.

This free, public event provides updates on groundwater management, local water programs, and conservation initiatives that directly impact communities across the Central Platte River Basin. Lunch will be provided and all interested residents are encouraged to attend.

The day will begin with updates from Central Platte NRD staff, including a look at local groundwater level trends, Central Platte NRD’s free flow meter and telemetry program, and new tools being developed to improve water quality and water quantity reporting statewide. Attendees will also hear updates on regional initiatives, including the Perkins County Canal, and learn how these efforts connect to long-term water sustainability for communities like Lexington.

Featured speakers will share insights on drinking water and nitrate management, irrigation efficiency, and the 2026 weather outlook, helping participants better understand how water resources are monitored, managed, and protected in central Nebraska.

For producers, attendance at the Water Programs Update fulfills the Nitrogen Management Certification Test requirement for Central Platte NRD’s Groundwater Management Program. In addition, up to three Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) will be available for Professional Water Well Contractor Licenses.

“Our goal is to keep our community informed and connected,” said Lyndon Vogt, Central Platte NRD general manager. “Water management affects everyone, from producers to homeowners, and this event is an opportunity to learn how local programs and data help protect our water resources now and into the future.”
